2012-13 Southeast Division Preview
2011-12 Record & Division Standing: 46-20 (1st)
Key Off-Season Additions: Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis
Key Off-Season Losses: Ronny Turiaf
Outlook: The defending NBA Champs just improved their roster
On the Bright Side: LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh will continue to dominate. They added two prolific shooters in Allen and Lewis to space the floor on offense.
Be Concerned: With Bosh moving to center the Heat will be undersized against teams like the Lakers,Pacers, and Sixers.
2011-12 Record & Division Standing: 40-26 (2nd)
Key Off-Season Additions: Devin Harris, Kyle Korver, Lou Williams, Anthony Morrow, DeShawn Stevenson and Jordan Farmar
Key Off-Season Losses: Marvin Williams, Joe Johnson, Kirk Hinrich, Willie Green and Vladimir Radmanovic
Outlook: They’ll be competitive but not as dangerous, or good, as they were with Joe Johnson. Watch for them to run a lot more.
On the Bright Side: The Hawks should have Al Horford for a full season and Lou Williams is a decent replacement for Joe Johnson.
Be Concerned: Depth could be an issue and they are somewhat weak at the wing positions outside of Josh Smith who is a small forward trapped in a power forward’s body.
Key Off-Season Additions: Trevor Ariza, Emeka Okafor, Martell Webster and Bradley Beal (rookie)
Key Off-Season Losses: Andray Blatche and Rashard Lewis
Outlook: At best the Wizards could make the playoffs. However, their lack of experienced talent will keep them out for this year.
On the Bright Side: They have some talent (John Wall and Bradley Beal) and some good complementary players (Okafor, Ariza and Nene).
Be Concerned: The challenge for the Wizards will be to find a winning system with and without John Wall, who will miss at least the first month of the season with a knee injury
Key Off-Season Additions: Ben Gordon, Brendan Haywood, Ramon Sessions and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (rookie)
Key Off-Season Losses: D.J. Augustin and Corey Maggette,
Outlook: With some good additions things should be better than their 7-win season in 2011-12
On the Bright Side: Hopefully, Kemba Walker and Bismack Biyombo’s improvement over the summer yields more positive results.
Be Concerned: It’s unclear if the Bobcats have any future All-Stars among their recent lottery picks- rookie Michael Kidd-Gilchrist might be their best hope.
Key Off-Season Additions: Aaron Afflalo, Al Harrington, Nikola Vucevic and Coach Jacque Vaughn
Key Off-Season Losses: Dwight Howard, Ryan Anderson, Jason Richardson, Earl Clark, Chris Duhon and Coach Stan Van Gundy
Outlook: It doesn’t look good. The Magic didn’t get much in return for Howard and they lack talent at most positions.
On the Bright Side: The uncertainty with Dwight Howard is over.
Be Concerned: They’re not very good and their roster doesn’t appear to have any future stars.
